Best Places To Walk Your Dogs Close To Our Homes In Exeter
When buying a new home in Exeter, it’s important to consider the needs of all members of your family – furry friends included! Having places close to home to walk to your dog(s) first thing in the morning, during your lunch break or in the evening is so important, but it’s also worth knowing about the special places nearby for a weekend adventure.
Here are some of our favourite places for dog walks close to our homes on the eastern and southern outskirts of Exeter.
Equinox I, II & III
Our Equinox community is on the eastern outskirts of Exeter on the newly built Tithebarn Lane. Within immediate walking distance of the neighbourhood is a 15-acre country park that provides open green space to exercise dogs close to your home.
Within half an hours driving distance is the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths*, an area of outstanding natural beauty, which offer over 1,400 hectares of lowland heath to enjoy, perfect for a weekend walk and exploring. Access to the Pebblebed Heaths by foot is free and private car parking is permitted in some designated areas. Visit the Pebblebed Heaths website to plan your adventure and check out the Pebblebed Dog Code too.
The National Trust parkland at Killerton is another ideal spot for a weekend walk. There are miles of tracks, woods and open space for your pup to explore on and off the lead, just be mindful of other walkers and livestock that might be present. Killerton Estate is around a 15-minute drive from our homes at Equinox and is an ideal place to revisit time and time again for new adventures with your family and furry friends. If you haven’t visited before take a look here for the National Trust’s favourite dog-friendly walks at Killerton to get you started.
Cavanna @ Elm Park
Our homes at Cavanna @ Elm Park are surrounded by vast amounts of Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANGS land) suitable for a brisk dog walk with beautiful views nearby to your home.
Just a short walk away from Cavanna @ Elm Park is the River Exe Country Park and the Riverside Valley Park providing excellent open green space for your dog to have a good run around as well as offering stunning views of the river and canal for you to enjoy. To make a morning or afternoon out of walking within these parks, head upstream and towards Exeter Quay stopping at the dog-friendly Double Locks pub for a hot drink or bite to eat.
One of the best places to walk your dog at low tide and during the autumn and winter months is Dawlish Warren Beach* only a 25-minute drive from Cavanna @ Elm Park. Groynes (wooden structures) along the beach will help to mark out areas where dogs can be walked and take note of signs showing areas where dogs can be let off the lead. The Dawlish Countryside Park* also offers 65 acres of open space to exercise dogs off the lead and provides free car parking on site.
Our homes at Equinox I, II, III and Cavanna @ Elm Park are ideally located close to the coast and countryside with an abundance of stunning walks just waiting for you and your dog to enjoy!
