New homes benefit the pocket and the planet
A recent report published by the Home Builder’s Federation highlighted the environmental and financial benefits of new homes versus existing properties. It found that owners of new build houses saved £2,600 on last year’s energy bills, compared to those living in an equivalent older property. That’s a monthly saving of £216.
We, along with all other new-home builders, are dedicated to bringing forward new homes that meet the Future Homes Standard commitment. From 2025, all newly built homes will be required to produce 75 to 80 per cent less carbon emissions than those built to current standards. Properties therefore need to be fitted with low carbon, energy efficient heating systems, modern insulation and other energy saving features, which will result in even greater savings.
All Cavanna homes are fitted with excellent wall and loft insulation and double glazing as standard, to keep warmth in during the winter month and bills down. Our homes are also fitted with energy saving light bulbs and integrated kitchen appliances, such as washing machines, dishwashers and ovens have a B energy efficiency rating.
At Cavanna @ Elm Park in Exeter, we are installing solar electricity panels on selected homes that benefit from exposure to the sun’s energy. The energy will be converted into electricity meaning homeowners will be able to light their homes, save money on their bills and reduce pressure on the National Grid.
On the eastern outskirts of Exeter, near Pinhoe, all 307 one to four-bedroom homes at Equinox are connected to the Monkerton District Heating System, which provides them with a sustainable and cost-effective source of heat and hot water.
A district heating system delivers energy from a central power source, such as a power station or bio-mass boiler, to a number of domestic and non-domestic properties, through a network of insulated pipes. Approximately 500,000 properties in the UK are currently connected to a district heating system and are a key element of the Government’s ongoing drive to reduce carbon emissions and cut the cost of heating bills for domestic and commercial customers.
In the Mid-Devon village of Hemyock, near Cullompton we’re taking reservations for 40 energy-efficient homes at Oak Mount. Both the open market and affordable properties are fitted with air source heat pumps which provide a low carbon heating alternative to gas.
Heat pumps work like fridges, but in reverse. They absorb heat from the outside air and circulate it through the heating system to heat the home. Customers can find out more about purchasing a home fitted with an air source heat pump by speaking to our Sales Team at Oak Mount.
Electric vehicle charging points encourage greener travel and provide homeowners with the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint. When buyers reserve off plan at Oak Mount in Hemyock or at Broadleigh Park in Tavistock, we can organise for an electric vehicle charging point to be added to their property.
