Maximise your energy efficiency this winter
With household bills increasing this winter, Cavanna homeowners can be confident in the quality of materials we use for our homes to optimise energy efficiency.
There are still many little steps you can take to help minimise the impact of rising energy costs this winter.
Here are six of the best…
Get smart with your thermostat
Save money by turning down your thermostat. According to experts at Uswitch, lowering the temperature by one degree can deliver a saving of around £60 per year*.
Even better, upgrade to a Nest heating system thermostat that is easy to turn up and down, it learns what you think, knows when you’re away and is controllable from anywhere through your phone**.
Radiators
Don’t underestimate the importance of radiator maintenance. Remember to bleed your radiators to get rid of air pockets so that they work effectively. If you’re not sure how to do this, watch our handy tutorial here.
Turn the thermostat valves down on the radiators in rooms that you don’t use, and make sure you keep your radiators dust free too, to maximise heat efficiency.
Say goodbye to standby
Any devices and electronic gadgets left in standby mode are still using power, so get into the habit of switching them off.
If you have old electronic appliances, consider upgrading them to more efficient models and if they have an ‘eco’ mode, make sure to use it!
Put your energy into more efficient light bulbs
If you haven’t done it already, now is the time to switch to LED light bulbs. They use a quarter of the energy of incandescent bulbs and can last up to 25 times longer*. It’s worth getting into the habit of turning off the light every time you leave a room too – the savings will add up!
Did you know, all Cavanna homes are fitted with energy saving light bulbs ahead of completion?
Don’t overstay your welcome in a welcoming shower
Less time showering means less water used – and less money spent. By keeping your shower time to just 4-minutes, a typical household could save £95 a year on their bills †.
Do some research into water saving gadgets too, like more efficient shower heads or a shower timer.
Save on clothes and dishwashing costs
Fill up your dishwasher and set it to run only when it’s full – it’s not cost effective or efficient when it’s half empty.
See if you can cut the number of weekly washing machine loads you do and set the cycle to a lower temperature setting aswell.
Finally, consider investing in an airer to dry your clothes rather than tumble drying them. If you do prefer tumble drying, then do all your drying in one go and take advantage of the heat that’s already built up in the machine.
